How to Use the Flatbed Scanner |

1. Log in to the computer system.
2. Place the item to scan on the scanner bed face down.
a. Line the edges of your work with the upper right corner of the scanner bed.
3. Double click on “My Computer” and find the scanner icon.
4. Double click on the scanner icon (at the bottom of the screen).
5. On the window that appears, choose “Microsoft Scanner and Camera Wizard” and click OK.
6. In the next window, click NEXT.
7. The scanner preferences page appears. Choose the picture type and click NEXT.
8. The “Picture Name and Destination” page appears.
a. On #1, type in a name for your scanned item or group of items.
b. On #2, choose the file format (BE SURE to use JPEG).
c. On #3, choose the folder where you will save the scanned item. Click on BROWSE and choose your folder.
d. Click NEXT.
9. The scanner will scan your work.
a. The older scanners may work slowly – be patient.
10. After the scanner finishes, click NEXT.
11. On the next window, click FINISH.
12. Your folder will open with the scanned image highlighted. If you want to preview the scanned image, click on the highlighted file.
13. Close the image and the folder window.
14. If you have another item to scan, repeat steps 2 – 13.
NOTE: There is currently no program installed in the UMIS computer system that will translate text in a scanned document to word processing text. All scanned items act as a graphic.
