How to Make a Graph in Excel
(grade 5)
1. Type the table below into the Excel spreadsheet. Copy the information exactly as it is written on this paper.

Highlight all the data you typed. Be sure NO blank boxes are highlighted.
3. Click the “Chart Wizard” icon or choose INSERT at the top of the screen and go down to CHART.
4. The “CHART TYPE” box appears.
5. Choose the type of graph (COLUMN) and the exact way a graph will look (TOP LEFT PICTURE).
6. Click NEXT (at the bottom of the box). You will see your graph in a box.
7. Be sure the “Columns” button is on. Click NEXT (at the bottom of the box).
8. You will see the CHART OPTIONS box. Click the TITLES tab (at the top of the box).
9. Type in:
a) A main title “UMIS Lemonade Stand - by (your name)”
b) X-axis title “Day of the Week”
c) Y-axis title “Cups of Lemonade”
10. Click FINISH (at the bottom of the box). Your will see your graph on the screen.
11. To see what the graph will look like when you print, click on FILE and go down to PRINT PREVIEW. (The graph may look a little different.)
12. To print your graph, click PRINT at the top of the “Print Preview” page.
13. Now change the type of graph to a pie graph. Point to the graph and click. (Be sure the handles show.)
14. Click on CHART (at top of the screen), then click CHART TYPE. Choose the pie graph and the upper left picture. The graph becomes a pie graph. Your main title will be on it.

15. To print the pie graph, choose FILE at the top of the screen and go down to PRINT. In the next box click OK.
16. Be sure to save your work. (Reminder – Excel saves your data but does not save the graphs.)
