How to Make a Graph in Excel
(grade 4)
1. Type the table below into the Excel spreadsheet. Copy the information exactly as it is written on this paper. Type only the data in the table - do not type the title.

Highlight all the data you typed. Do not highlight any empty
cells.
3. Click the “Chart Wizard” icon or choose INSERT at the top of the screen and go down to CHART. The “CHART TYPE” box appears.
4. Choose the type of graph (COLUMN) and the exact way a graph will look (TOP LEFT PICTURE)
5. Click FINISH at the bottom – your bar graph will appear
6. Click on CHART (at top of the screen), click CHART OPTIONS, click the TITLES tab
7. Type in:
a) a main title “UMIS Lemonade Stand by (your name)”
b) X-axis title “day of the week”
c) Y-axis title “cups of lemonade sold”
8. To print the graph… Be sure the graph is highlighted (click on the graph box). Choose FILE at the top of the screen and go down to PRINT. In the next box click OK.
9. Now change the type of graph. Be sure the graph is highlighted (click on the graph box).
10. Click on CHART (at top of the screen), then click CHART TYPE. Choose the pie graph and the upper left picture. The graph becomes a pie graph. Your main title will be on it.
NOTE: The pie graph will display only the first column of data (week 1 sales).
11. To print the Pie graph… Be sure the graph is highlighted (click on the graph box Choose FILE at the top of the screen and go down to PRINT. In the next box click OK.
12. Staple the two graphs together and turn in your work.
13. Experiment with other graphs or other data.
