How to Make a Graph Using Microsoft Excel |

1. Log in using your name and password.
2. Double click on the Microsoft Excel icon.
3. Microsoft Excel will start.
1. When Microsoft Excel starts, you may begin entering data.
or
2. Click on the word FILE at the top of the screen.
3. Choose the word NEW.
4. Double click on WORKBOOK – a new file appears.
1. Type column and row labels into the top and left side. cells.
2. Type your data into the proper cells.
3. NOTE: Data to be graphed (other than column and row labels) must be numerals - not words.
1. Click on the word FILE at the top of the screen - a pull-down menu appears.
2. Click on the words SAVE AS... - the “save in” box appears on the screen.
3. IF the computer is not looking at the folder your work is going in, click on the arrow beside the “save in” box. Choose your “H” folder from the list.
4. IF your work is going in a folder inside your “H” folder, double click on the folder.
5. Type in a name for your work in the “File Name” box. Then click SAVE. Your work is saved.
NOTE:
1. The computer puts a name for your work in the “File name” box. If you want to use that name, DO NOT type a new name – just click SAVE.
1. Highlight the data you want to graph. Be sure to highlight the column and row labels as well as the number data.
2. Click on INSERT at the top of the screen. Click on CHART.
3. The “CHART TYPE” box appears.
4. Choose the type of graph you want from the box on the left.
5. Choose the exact style of the graph you want from the box to the right.
6. Click the FINISH button at the bottom. Your graph will appear.
1. Click CHART at the top of the screen. Click CHART OPTIONS.
2. Click the TITLES tab.
3. Type in (or change) the Main Title, X-axis title (if needed) and Y-axis title (if needed).
4. Click OK.
1. Click on the graph.
2. Click on FILE at the top of the screen. Click on PRINT.
3. A normal print box appears. Choose the number of copies and click OK.
4. Your graph will print.
NOTE: Your graph will be enlarged and fill the whole paper automatically.
1. Click on CHART at the top of the screen. Then click on CHART TYPE.
2. Choose the type of graph you want from the box on the left.
3. Choose the exact style of the graph you want from the box to the right.
4. Click the FINISH button at the bottom. Your changed graph will appear.
1. Click CHART at the top of the screen. Click CHART OPTIONS.
2. Click the LEGEND tab.
3. Click on the position for the legend. Click OK.
1. Click on the graph. Handled appear around the graph (like the handles on a graphic).
2. Use the handles to make the graph larger or smaller.
1. Click on the text you wish to change.
2. Use the Font and Size boxes and the Style icons to change way the text looks.
1. Click CHART at the top of the screen. Click CHART OPTIONS.
2. Click the DATA LABELS tab.
3. Click on the SHOW VALUE button. Click OK.
4. Your data numbers appear on the graph.
1. Click on the graph box outside the actual graph.
2. Click on EDIT at the top of the screen. Click on COPY.
3. Open Microsoft Word. Open the document where the graph will go.
4. Click on EDIT at the top of the screen.
5. Click on PASTE SPECIAL. Your graph will appear.
6. You may move, resize, and wrap text around the graph like any other graphic.
1. Many steps listed above can be done by a shortcut.
2. Point to the part of a graph you want change.
3. Click on the Right Mouse Button. A box will appear with choices of things to do.
4. Click on the choice you want to use. Follow the directions above to make the changes.
1. Click on HELP at the top of the Screen.
2. Choose the Help Topic you want.
3. You may also click on the INDEX tab and type in the topic you want help with.
4. A HELP box appears on the screen with directions for you to follow.
