E-Mail Worksheet

To read your e-mail:

      1.   Log in.  Double click on the GroupWise icon.
2.   Enter your username and e-mail password.
3.   You will be in your mailbox.  You will see the list of your e-mail.  All mail has a picture of an envelope beside it.  An envelope with the flap down means new mail you did not read yet.
4.   Double click on the subject of the message to open it.

To write and send a message:

        1. Click the NEW icon (the picture of paper and pencil).
        2. Type the e-mail address you want to sent the message to in the TO box.
        3. Type a subject for the message in the SUBJECT box.  (E-mail must have a subject)
        4. Write your message in the MESSAGE box.
        5. Proofread your message.  Click on SPELL CHECK if needed.
        6. Click SEND to send your message.

  To address e-mail:

   
   To other UMSD users:
   
        
·        Type the username in the TO box.  (You may also type username@umtsd.org)
      To addresses outside UMSD:
   
         ·        Type the complete e-mail address in the TO box.  (Example: rabbott@aol.com)

To attach a file:

  1. You can attach any file in your folder to e-mail.
  2. Click on the NEW icon to write a new message (see above).
  3. Click on the ATTACH button.  The “attach” screen appears.
  4. Click on BROWSE and go to your folder.
  5. Find the file you want to attach and double click on it.  The file will appear in the window on the “attach” screen.
  6. Click ADD to add the attachment to the e-mail
  7. Repeat steps 4-6 to add more attachments.
  8. Click OK to return to the message.



To Use GroupWise Web Access from Home (or non-UMSD computers):

  1. To use GroupWise Web Access from non-UMSD computers, you must be on a computer that has access to the Internet.
  2. Type in this URL:  www.umtsd.org/email
  3. E-mail will now work just as it does at school


REMEMBER:

1. School e-mail is for students to use to do school work and school activities.

2. No messages that threaten or insult others may be sent.

3. No bad language.

4. No "spamming" – sending lots of garbage messages to someone to annoy them.

5. No broadcasting – sending a message to everyone on the address list.

6. No sending for things that cost you or the school money.

7. No asking to have things sent to you that are not allowed in school.

8. No selling or trading of things (example: Poke’mon cards).

9. You may not sign up for list serves. (example: Joke of the Day).

If you misuse UM e-mail you could lose your e-mail privileges, lose your computer privileges, or even receive other punishment. We will discuss any misuse of e-mail with your parents.
